About Ben:

Ben Gillum grew up in Asheville and after earning a Biology degree from Princeton, returned and bought his home in 1991 in the Five Points neighborhood, north of downtown.

“I was looking for a place with good southern orientation, lots of big trees and lots of character. I wanted to be in or near North Asheville where I grew up, and I wanted to be able to walk to shops and downtown. I had recently graduated from college, so I also needed something affordable.”

One of the first houses Ben toured had all of these qualities – along with some more interesting things that he later renovated such as hot-pink walls and an electric fuse box in the shower! Ben’s successful buying experience sparked an interest in real estate, a career he pursued until he married and attended graduate school for two years in Knoxville. When he returned to Asheville, Ben managed properties while working in information technology for the County. Today, he owns and manages a number of residential rental homes and works as a Realtor with Keller Williams Professionals. During his spare time Ben pursued his interest in science and earned his Master’s of Liberal Arts from UNCA with a certificate in “Climate Change & Society” from UNCA, a degree that has helped him pursue freelance science writing and data analysis with the World Meteorological Organization and Case Consulting International.

Ben’s love of research and keen interest in real estate allow him to stay on top of local market conditions. He’s friendly, easy-going, and patient and will work hard for you. Ben is also a cancer survivor, an animal lover, and Tarheel fan. Call him today to buy or sell a property.

Believe it or not, even in what seems like the gloomiest of real estate markets, there will be a glimmer …
